Star Trek XI (11) (With Digital Copy) (3 Discs) (Blu-ray)

I love my sci-fi with Star Wars and Star Trek up there as the top 2 for me. Having all the original series remastered and just recently finished all the next-gen episodes back-to-back I was really not sure what to expect. Firstly I was worried about the actors.... mostly they work for me except some scenes where Kirk is just too arrogant (Kobayashi Maru), Spock doing some things out of character and Simon Pegg's accent (although one of my favourite actors!) and the way of explaining any continuity errors as well I found a little too convenient (and doesn't explain the horrible new styling of the bridge!). However that's the criticisms out of the way..... on the positive side, it's an all action movie with amazing special effects and with the characters quite close (especially Bones and Spock) to the 60's series you didn't need too much convincing. Blu ray is excellent transfer using all my 7 speakers to full effect (especially the subwoofer, sorry neighbours) and with the clear picture and loads of extras this is a must buy on Blu-Ray, it's just the small floors that make it a 4 not a 5 for me

Wasn't sure if I was going to like this , but the verdict is in and it good.
Apart form a decent story and decent effects were the very decent cast who did an incredible job of playing those classic Star Trek characters that we've grown to love over the years. The guy who plays Kirk was simply brilliant.
Just incase anyone think I'm biased fan and hence a good review, I can take of leave Star Trek movies, but in this case I took it, and Im glad I did.

Finally a Star Trek movie that appeals to everyone and not just Star Trek fans.

While some purist fans were not too happy with the ending (as it breaks the Star Trek cannon) it was a materstoke by JJ Abrams as not only is this an origin story for characters that everyone already knows but it now doesnt have to worry about how future films fit in with the other 10 already made as they have wiped the slate clean.

Funny, entertaining and action packed you couldnt hope for more.

As for the disc itself the picture transfer is top notch and is one of the few live action movies that falls into the 'reference material' category. The sound also is first rate and while not as loud as say Transformers 2 (what could be?) it will give your speakers a good workout.

In addition to this virtually all the extras, and there are lots, are also in HD making this a must own package.

Highly recommended.

Before I get started here I'm not a Star Trek fan at all. May I also say that since watching American Dad in which Captain Picard himself (Patrick Stewart) voices Stan's boss I have become a Patrick Stewart fan hehe! Very funny man....

Anyway, that has nothing to do with this film.....Since I saw the trailer for this I was impressed. I like sci fi movies but was never a trekkie fan.
This was the first blu ray I bought & I was totally blown away with how sharp & clear the picture & sound was.

I did see the original films but not bein the biggest fan I can't say how the hardcore fans will take to this reboot but I reckon the new lot are all very well cast. Kirk & Spock in particular draw you in straight away. I only hope that such a large cast can be kept together for any future films.

As a movie the plot is very clever, allowing original Spock (Leonard Nimoy) a cameo role. Eric Bana plays the time travelling Romulen villian & a set up similar to Batman Begins, telling the origins of all the crew sets things up for an even more dramatic & action packed sequel

I am not a star trek fan at all, but I loved this film, you dont need to know anything before this film as it scraps everything you know star trek and reboots the franchise, just as casino royal reboot the bond films. The film has a great cast, loads of fantastic visual effects and a pretty decent story. Lets hope they can follow this up with the same quality. Worth owning for sure even if your not a fan its quality sci-fi.
